Preview: Jakals Will Devour Your Heart At Great Scott (1/17)

January 15, 2019 | Allston Pudding | Lex Nappa

“The distinct pairing of frontwoman Katie Solomon’s undulating, aching vocals with fuzzy guitars reminiscent of 90’s grunge immediately grabs your attention. The second of six songs on Bat Brains, “Trauma Hoarding,” paints a bloody picture of a bat and a broom on the first floor of the storyteller’s childhood home. The line “I cannot clean anything up” repeats in a heart-rending melancholy driven home by a hammering staccato of electric guitars and percussion. Jakals has a knack for laying bare the unmentionable, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the rawness of Bat Brains. It’s an album for those dark nights of the soul.”
